Sam Mizener was introduced to Water Polo during the inaugural season for the Mason Comets in 2004 as a seventh grader. He fell in love with the sport over the next 6 seasons and culminated his high school career on the 1st Team All-Ohio team. He continued playing club water polo at North Carolina State University, where he earned a degree in Secondary Education. Upon graduating, he accepted a teaching position and assistant coach position at Milford where he coached for two years before accepting a teaching position at Kings High School. He then started refereeing in 2016 and has thoroughly enjoyed a new perspective of the sport. He has made two trips out to Riverside, CA to officiate the ODP National Championships and looks forward to many future years of referring.

When Sam is not officiating, he enjoys teaching Computer Science and coaching Swimming at Kings High School. He also coaches the Landen Stingrays, a neighborhood swim team for kids ages 3-18. He lives in Kings Mills with his wife, Linnea, and his two kids.
